About Me
Hello Everyone!!
My name is Mickey, and I work from home, balancing my personal life as a single mother and obtaining my Information Technology degree.
Story Time!!
I have always been fascinated by computers since I was a young child. I remember growing up with an old Windows computer that I had to type C:\ and run with a floppy disk playing Frogger and Qbert. Waiting for the AOL disk to come in the mail and asking kids at school if they had one to give it to me was tortuous back then. I even remember going on family road trips before airplane tickets were affordable, reading the Atlas Map, and seeing where bridges were! Is anyone else reminiscing about printing out directions from Mapquest?!
As a millennial, I grew up watching technology change constantly. When one game system came out, another one came out within a matter of months. Having an older brother who wanted the newest game systems like Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, and Play Station grew my love of technology. Or maybe it was being called a nerd after helping him beat hard levels and getting the game controller snatched from my tiny little hands. My keychain Gigapet always appreciated me.
My family always had the newest technology once it came out, even in cars with phones and switching from analog to digital. Technology makes me think of when my dad says they had the first colored TV on their block when he was a kid. Today, my son has the MetaQuest Oculus VR, and his poor, tiny little hands only work using the Super Nintendo controllers. I'm so glad I can screen share on my Samsung phone to soften the high pitched cries because of the Oculus controllers.
Then & Now
I cannot wait to be a part of how much technology will grow in the next 30 years. However, technology was more understood and simple 20 years ago. For instance, remember Myspace and coding in the pictures and music playlist or changing the font style and colors to glitter? If your Myspace page was done right, everyone wanted you to help them build their web page. What could be done with technology was valued, and the person creating had a purpose. Then, in 2004, Facebook encouraged scholastic excellence among school peers, and everything that created technology was swept away because of simplicity.
This tech reminiscing is making me feel obsolete, and I am still what the geriatrics call a baby. That reminds me of when I spoke to my eight-year-old son about a VHS. He thought it was, in his words, "Mommy, is that one of those flat shiny round things?" I basically told him it was a rectangular geometric object with camera film. His mouth dropped right to the floor as I had him make the shape in his hands. The confusion on his face was absolutely priceless when he created the depth after the width.
My Experience With Technology
Growing up I always fixed someone's computer when they thought they broke it or freaked out over Microsoft's Solitaire mysteriously removed. One of my curses is how I analyze everything and how much attention I pay to detail. It may not be good socially, but those skills mentioned will be great for technology! I hope to retain everything I learn from my Information Technology classes at UAGC and can continue to build on what I learned for my future career. In the end (after graduating, of course), I hope to find a position that does not require me to leave home for work. My son is still young, and I need a few more years before he can survive at home alone. I don't know which technology sector I would like to work in, but my Champs mentor says I will be a really good developer.
Disclaimer:
This blog is written for all the logical people that technology drives to insanity with technical language. It is also a place where questions can be asked and answered. I'm not the best yet. So if you have the credentials, please be a kind and give your educated answers.
Thank you!
